After having been confirmed as an appropriate tool for investigating nano-size particles like fullerenes and proteins, could we expect to use AFM and STM as promising instruments for building and characterizing nano-scale devices?

A considerable amount of nano-scale structures, either inorganic (mainly carbon nanotubes) and organic (proteins and proteic structures as the apolipoproteins) will be presented at a very high resolution. Configurations and possible practical applications based on the observed and measured physical properties will be suggested. Explicit ways and attempts to build nano-structures will be proposed, taking into consideration both scientific and economic issues.
